Obituary

Bernard (Bernie) Carl Banks, 89, passed away on January 18, 2014 surrounded by his family and friends at Deer's Head Hospital in Salisbury, MD. Bernie was born May 23, 1924 to the late Samuel and Hazel Banks in Canton, Missouri.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Elaine Banks of Westover, MD, sons Mark Noto and wife Suann of Pocomoke, MD and Mike Ross Sr. of Princess Anne. Daughter, Patti Slocum of Egg Harbor City, NJ. Grandchildren, Jessica Noto of Salisbury, MD., Michael Ross Jr. of Laurel DE. and Alex Noto of Pocomoke, MD. and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Sister Bernice Warren and Brother Phil Banks.
Bernie retired from the US Navy after serving 23 years as an Underwater Demolition Expert on the Navy Seal Team. During his services to our country he was honored with several medals which included the most distinguished "The Purple Heart" for his bravery beyond the call of duty while stationed on the U. S. S.Bunker Hill. After his career with the Navy, Bernie worked for and retired from Perdue Farms.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed bowling. He was a life-long member of the VFW and American Legion.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25th. at 2:00 PM at Deer's Head Hospital Center Auditorium in Salisbury MD. The Rev. Dave Duitcher will officiate. Interment will be private.
Arrangements are in the care of the Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne.
