Bartow "Bart" Van Ness, III, 93, of Deal Island and formerly of Baltimore and Chestertown, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at Alice B. Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield.

Born in Baltimore on January 27, 1932, he was the son of the late Bartow Van Ness, Jr. and Josephine C. Redwood Van Ness.

He was a graduate of the Gilman School in Baltimore and obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.

He was an engineer at Westinghouse Corporation in Baltimore, traveling all over the country repairing X-Ray machines. He genuinely loved his career and enjoyed telling friends and family about the places he traveled to. Following retirement from Westinghouse, he worked for Queen Anne's County Parks and Recreation.

He was a US Army Korean War veteran and a member of the Oliver T. Beauchamp American Legion Post 94 in Princess Anne. He enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, building warship models, collecting lighthouse models and decoys. In addition, he was as a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and an avid military history buff.

He is survived by his good friends, Albert Hoffman, Sr. and wife Virginia of Deal Island, Sam Georgiou and wife Ann of Severn, MD, Dicky Connelly of Chestertown, and Nathan from Delaware his duck hunting friend and his longtime caregiver, Ruth Daniels of Deal Island, and his beloved Chesapeake Bay Retriever, "Princess".

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Van Ness.
