Knute R. “Rocky” Bartrug

Hebron – Knute R. (“Rocky”) Bartrug Jr., 68, was called home to Heaven on July 7, 2022. He leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Donna (Briddell) Bartrug and sons, JonRyan (Charlotte) Bartrug and Logan Bartrug and girlfriend, Julianne Giarrantano, who were the “apple of his eye” and who brought him immense pride and joy.

Rocky was the son of the late Knute and Jean Bartrug. He is survived by his sister, Carol (David) Parish and their children Christy (Brian) Helton and Kelly (Mike) Riwniak and their families. He was predeceased by his brother, Scott (Terri) Bartrug and their children Jess (Chad) Cains and Justin (Ashley) Bartrug and their families. He adored his “Great Aunt” Sue (late George) Wilson, and his cousins Chris Wilson and Jennifer Wilson, and their families.

He was the son-in-law of the late Bill and Emily Briddell and is survived by sisters-in-law Becky (late Bob) Skinner and step-son Brad Skinner and girlfriend Rachel Howard and her daughter; Paige (Bob) Hazelton and children Heather (Toby) Mayfield and Kerri (Stephen) Coley and their families; Bryan (Sue) Briddell, and children Kelsey and Taylor Briddell and Kelsey’s boyfriend Will O’Neill; and the late Laura Forleo and her husband Richard McFadyen and her son Marcio (Jac) and family.

He cherished his long-time friendships from high school as well as friendships made with other families when his children attended school. He also valued his friendship with Drs. Rene and Cairy Desmarais.

Rocky graduated in 1971 from Wicomico Senior High School. He received his A.A. degree from Del-Tech and attended VA Tech. He was employed the majority of his career in his family’s business, Lift Parts and Services. He worked the past 8 years as Office Manager at Atlantic Rentals in Vienna, MD.

Rocky found great pleasure working on his 1970 Porsche 911-E Targa, especially with his sons who also cherished these moments.  He loved his home in the woods and found great tranquility sitting around his bonfire with family and friends. He was a gourmet cook who loved sharing fine wines and food with others. He was an avid reader with a multitude of interests. He had an eclectic taste in music. He especially cherished the times that he spent working on science or wood working projects with his children and with their school friends over the years. No one was ever sure who was having the most fun- the children or Rocky! He loved camping in the mountains of VA as well as traveling with his family, especially cruising to the Caribbean Islands.

As a result of numerous medical issues and with the guidance from Pastor Tom McKelvey (Christ United Methodist Church) and Pastor Howard Travers (New Lyfe Church), Rocky’s faith grew strong. Like the Brad Paisley song, “When I Get to Where I’m Going”, Rocky now “sees his Savior face-to-face”.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 16th at 2:00 at New Lyfe Church, 1308 Robins Avenue, Salisbury, with visitation 1:30-2:00. The service will be livestreamed at www.lyfechurch.org. Cremation is being handled by Hinman Funeral Home. A reception and bonfire will be held following the service at the Bartrug home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Rocky’s memory to New Lyfe Church Capital Campaign, 1308 Robins Ave, Salisbury, MD  21804. The family truly thanks everyone for encircling them with such love and support.
